I think there will be an emerging field of study on the traumatic effects of “cancellation”. Excommunication, banishment, ostracism can wipe away an identity and a support structure… many times without knowing the full context of a situation or as part of a mob mentality. It’s really gross human behavior.

That field is already underway, thanks to Dr. Christine Marie, who wrote the Psychology Today article I linked above. If you're of a more academic / research bent, here's her doctoral dissertation, which is truly the seminal text of research into cancelation and media humiliation and misrepresentation:

She's done several great podcast interviews, as well, if you look her up. She's very high on my list of "People we need to get on Joe Rogan." The ex-CEO I referenced in the article heard one of her interviews and told me about her. I looked her up, got in touch, and when she and I talked it was a significant moment in my realizing how much depth there was to this phenomenon and that I couldn't walk away from it.
